Score Breakdown

Integrity

verified Additionality was confirmed by the VVB, and the project uses a project baseline under AMS-III.AJ.

missing Leakage is only described as negligible in one report, while another document says it was not addressed; five corrective actions were also required.

Transparency

verified The project has a named verifier, a defined monitoring period, and both claimed and verified ER totals are available in the extracted record.

missing Usage monitoring is not stated, and the record contains conflicting ER totals and crediting period dates across documents.

Claim Safety

verified The project is an avoidance activity with no reported reversal events, which lowers permanence-related claim risk.

missing The verified and claimed ER totals differ materially across documents, and leakage treatment is inconsistent between reports.

Documentation

verified The extraction draws on 31 documents, including a verification report, monitoring report, PDD, and appendix, with medium extraction confidence.

missing Five corrective actions were required, and some key fields such as usage monitoring and buffer pool coverage are not stated in the available record.

Detailed Analysis

Integrity

The verification report confirms additionality through a first-of-its-kind test and says the VVB validated it, which supports the project’s core integrity case. The baseline is project-based under AMS-III.AJ, and no reversal events were reported, but the absence of a buffer pool figure and the lack of a stated baseline reassessment date leave some permanence and baseline robustness uncertainty. Leakage is weakened by the contradiction between a report describing it as negligible and another saying it was not addressed, and the presence of five corrective actions suggests the verifier found issues that needed follow-up.

Transparency

The project has a named verifier, a defined monitoring period, and the extracted record includes both claimed and verified ER totals, which helps traceability. At the same time, usage monitoring is not stated, and the record contains conflicting emission reduction totals and differing crediting period dates across documents. Those inconsistencies reduce the clarity and auditability of the public record.

Claim Safety

As an avoidance project with no reported reversal events, the project has lower permanence risk than removal projects. Still, claim safety is weakened by the inconsistent treatment of leakage and by the large mismatch between claimed and verified ER totals in the extracted record. Because CORSIA eligibility and CCP status are not stated, dual-market claim risk cannot be ruled out from the available evidence.

Documentation

The evidence base is fairly broad, with 31 documents used and references to a verification report, monitoring report, PDD, and appendix. Extraction confidence is medium rather than high, and five corrective actions were required, which suggests the documentation was not fully clean. Several important items are also missing from the extracted record, including usage monitoring detail and buffer pool coverage.

Overall

I privileged the more specific and higher-priority verification report when it confirmed additionality, no reported reversals, and negligible leakage, but I discounted confidence because the monitoring report contradicts leakage treatment and the record shows conflicting ER totals and crediting period dates. The contradiction on total ER claimed is especially important: one later monitoring figure is lower than an earlier extracted value, while verified totals also differ across documents, so the reliability of the emissions accounting is not fully stable. Because documentation is only moderate and the project has multiple unresolved or inconsistent points, the overall score is solid but not high.

Audit Analysis

This is a reasonably documented Gold Standard PET recycling project with VVB-confirmed additionality, a stated project baseline, and no reported reversal events. However, the record shows several corrective actions, missing leakage and usage-monitoring detail, and material discrepancies in credited/verified emission reduction figures and crediting period dates, which reduce confidence in the claims.

Project Description

The Project “Greentech’s Emissions Reductions from PET Recycling, Romania", developed by Greentech – a member company of   Green Group , is the first project in Europe to apply PET waste frameworks through PET waste recycling, proactively reducing greenhouse gases emissions that would be otherwise required for the production of plastic products made of virgin inputs and accelerating progress towards many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. GreenTech is one of the largest PET plastics recyclers in Europe and an important producer of recycled flakes, recycled PET strap and recycled PET granules. The certified CO2 emissions reductions project also includes PET recycling and production of sustainable products at GreenFiber, which produces PET fiber, as output. GreenFiber is the only manufacturer of synthetic fiber in Romania and the largest European producer of polyester synthetic fiber made of 100% recycled PET flakes. GreenFiber offers high-quality polyesteric staple fiber using the latest technology, its products being used by top players in the automotive industry, hygiene, etc. Green Group is the only integrated recycling park in Romania and is the biggest in South-Eastern Europe. It is the first of its kind in Romania. The total GHG emission reductions for the 10 years crediting period (2016-2025) are estimated at 453,800 t CO2. The estimated annual average GHG emissions reduction is 45,380 t CO2/year. As in natural ecosystems, we give waste new life through recycling, creating value for nature and the economy, and most importantly, for society. Project impacts and benefits: This project is in line with specific UN requirements because it contributes to local environmental sustainability, since recycling instead of using material from virgin inputs decreases the overall energy use, CO2 emissions and environmental burden caused by natural resources extraction. At the same time, PET waste recycling reduces the amount of waste to be disposed

Red Flags

  • Five corrective actions were required in the verification report, indicating unresolved issues at the time of review.
  • The extracted record shows contradictions in credited and verified emission reduction totals, as well as a changed crediting period across reports.

Cosa migliorerebbe questo punteggio

  • Publish a reconciled emissions accounting table that explains the differences in claimed and verified ER totals and the changed crediting period dates.
  • Provide explicit leakage and usage-monitoring documentation, including any reassessment of the baseline and any buffer or permanence provisions if applicable.

Questi suggerimenti indicano quali prove pubbliche aggiuntive potrebbero migliorare il livello di confidenza di questa valutazione. Non garantiscono un punteggio futuro più alto.
