The Challenge: Climate Resilience in Rural Mexico Mexico continues to face the intensifying effects of climate change. Increasingly volatile weather patterns and extreme events are disrupting agricultural yields, directly threatening the food security and livelihoods of the nation’s most vulnerable rural populations.  The solution: Utsil Naj “Healthy Homes for All” Utsil Naj is a high-impact, large-scale intervention program designed to transform living conditions across Central America. Meaning "Healthy Homes for all" in Mayan, the program deploys sustainable technologies that deliver immediate social and environmental benefits to rural households. Currently operating in Mexico and other countries in Central America, Utsil Naj bridges the gap between grassroots community needs and global climate goals.  Strategic Impact and Scalability Through localized partnerships and deep-rooted community trust, Utsil Naj Mexico has achieved significant milestones: Scale: Over 17,000 improved cookstoves monitored, benefiting more than 83,000 people living in poverty. Health: Users report that respiratory illnesses have significantly decreased since adopting improved cookstoves, reflecting a substantial reduction in indoor air pollution and associated health risks. Environment: The project in Mexico has prevented over 251,000 tCO2e from entering the atmosphere and saves nearly 174,000 tons of wood , actively combatting local deforestation. Social Business Model and Vision Microsol operates as a social enterprise, reinvesting 100% of its revenue from certified carbon credit sales (Gold Standard) back into project maintenance and expansion. As Mexico moves toward, Utsil Naj stands as a premier example of high-integrity carbon offsetting. The Project collaborates with international organizations and local governments to define scalable roadmaps, ensuring that climate action is inclusive, culturally respectful, and scientifically rigorous.
