Score Breakdown

Integrity

verified The verification report confirms additionality using an investment test and indicates it was confirmed by the VVB (350Solutions).

missing Leakage treatment, baseline reassessment timing, and permanence risk controls (buffer/reversal provisions) are not stated in the extracted record.

Transparency

verified A defined monitoring period is provided (2023-01-01 to 2024-02-29) and the VVB is identified as 350Solutions.

missing Claimed vs verified removals are not available in the extracted record, and key MRV parameters (e.g., usage monitoring method) are not stated.

Claim Safety

verified The project is assessed under the Puro Biochar Methodology (v4) with third-party verification indicated.

missing CORSIA/CCP status is not stated and the inconsistency in crediting period increases the risk of misinterpretation or over-issuance claims.

Documentation

verified The extracted record references a verification report dated 2024-04-03 and shows no corrective actions or material findings.

missing Evidence document naming is incomplete (listed as “unknown”) and extraction confidence is only medium, indicating documentation gaps.

Detailed Analysis

Integrity

The verification report (2024-04-03) indicates additionality was assessed via an investment test and confirmed by the VVB (350Solutions), which supports additionality robustness. Baseline approach is described only as project-specific, and the timing of any baseline reassessment is not stated in available documents, which weakens baseline confidence. Leakage deduction and leakage justification are not found in the extracted record, and permanence risk management elements such as a buffer pool percentage or any reversal monitoring outcomes are also not stated.

Transparency

The verification report (2024-04-03) provides a clear monitoring period (2023-01-01 to 2024-02-29) and identifies the VVB as 350Solutions. However, the extracted record does not include total removals claimed or verified, preventing a basic cross-check of issuance quantities. Key MRV descriptors such as the usage monitoring method and any relevant parameters (e.g., biomass sourcing/usage rates) are not stated in available documents, reducing transparency.

Claim Safety

Use of the Puro Biochar Methodology (v4) and third-party verification (verification report dated 2024-04-03) helps reduce greenwashing risk relative to unverified claims. Nonetheless, the extracted record lacks the core quantitative outcome (verified removals), which elevates over-crediting and marketing-claim risk because stakeholders cannot reconcile claims to verified numbers. CORSIA eligibility and CCP status are not stated in available documents, so buyers cannot easily determine alignment with higher-integrity eligibility screens.

Documentation

The extracted record indicates 6 documents were used with medium extraction confidence, suggesting some key fields may be missing or hard to read. The verification report (2024-04-03) reports no material findings and no corrective actions required, which is a positive signal for audit outcomes. However, the evidence document list is not well-specified (shown as “unknown”), and several critical fields (leakage, buffer/reversal provisions, quantified results) are not found in the extracted record, limiting documentation completeness.

Overall

Overall scoring is pulled down primarily by missing quantitative results (claimed/verified removals), missing leakage and permanence risk controls, and a significant inconsistency in the crediting period across documents. The contradiction shows a crediting period of 2023-01-01 to 2024-02-29 in the more recent verification report dated 2024-04-03, versus 2021-03-24 to 2022-06-01 in an older document dated 2022-07-27; the more recent verification report period is privileged as it is later-dated and likely reflects the verified monitoring window. Even with that choice, the presence of conflicting periods indicates record reliability issues and warrants a downward adjustment to transparency and claim-safety.

Audit Analysis

This Puro biochar removal project has a VVB-confirmed investment additionality test and no reported material findings in the verification record. However, key integrity and MRV elements (leakage treatment, permanence/buffer approach, and quantified verified removals) are not stated in the extracted record, and there is a material inconsistency in the stated crediting period across documents.

Project Description

VGrid Energy Systems, Inc. is helping to solve some of the world's most difficult environmental problems. First, the company’s proprietary and patented technology transforms organic matter, such as waste from agricultural and forestry operations, into clean and sustainable energy. This energy can take the form of electricity, biofuel, hydrogen, or thermal energy production. Second, as part of VGrid’s innovative process, biomass is converted into a highly stable, porous, and pure form of carbon called biochar which is sequestered in the soil. VGrid biochar stabilizes the carbon from the biomass for generations, rather than quickly releasing it back into the atmosphere if left to die and decompose. In this way, VGrid effectively stops the natural carbon cycle to offset CO2 that is artificially pumped into the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels. In addition to sequestering carbon, biochar addresses several other critical environmental issues. With its high porosity and large surface area-to-volume ratio, VGrid’s biochar significantly improves the water retention and microbial activity in the soil, helping to mitigate the impact of drought and naturally improve the long-term health and productivity of decimated soils. Biochar is also a natural filtration media helping to capture contaminates in water runoff, solid waste leachate, and other areas of point-source pollution. Additionally, biochar enhances the quality of compost, while accelerating the composting process and reducing GHG emissions. Finally, VGrid’s biochar has been shown to improve animal and livestock health as a feed supplement or as an animal bedding deodorizer. Third, VGrid’s bioenergy process also produces a unique bio-condensate, which is sometimes called wood vinegar or pyroligneous acid. VGrid’s wood vinegar contains natural ‘signaling compounds’ that stimulate seed germination and plant development leading to increased vigor, branching, and productivity. It also helps balance Ph levels

Red Flags

  • Crediting period is inconsistent across documents (2023–2024 vs 2021–2022), raising data reliability concerns.
  • No quantified claimed or verified removals were found in the extracted record, limiting the ability to assess over-crediting risk.
  • Leakage deduction and justification are not stated in available documents for a biomass/biochar pathway where upstream/downstream leakage can be relevant.
  • Permanence risk management (e.g., buffer pool or reversal provisions) is not stated in the extracted record.

Cosa migliorerebbe questo punteggio

  • Publish or extract the verified removal quantity for the monitoring period and provide a clear reconciliation between claimed and verified removals in the verification/monitoring documentation.
  • Disclose leakage assessment (deduction and justification) and permanence risk management (e.g., buffer contribution, reversal monitoring and remedies), and resolve the crediting-period inconsistency with an explicit registry timeline.
