WithOneSeed Community Forest Programme, Timor-Leste
Score Breakdown
Integrity
verified Additionality was confirmed by the VVB using a combined test in the verification report.
missing The verification report says the main risk is reversion to slash-and-burn agriculture, and reversal events are reported.
Transparency
verified The project has a named VVB, Pangolin Associates, and the monitoring period is stated in the extracted record.
missing Total verified ERs and total claimed ERs are not found in the extracted record, and the extraction confidence is low.
Claim Safety
verified The project uses a project baseline and is a Gold Standard removal project with a 20% buffer pool.
missing Leakage is marked as not addressed, and the project is listed as CORSIA-eligible while CCP status is not stated.
Documentation
verified The record includes multiple document types, with 17 documents used and safeguards such as FPIC and a grievance mechanism described.
missing Extraction confidence is low, several key fields are not found, and nine corrective actions were required in the verification report.
Detailed Analysis
Integrity
The verification report confirms additionality through a combined test and shows a 20% buffer pool, which supports some integrity strength. But the same report explicitly identifies reversion to traditional slash-and-burn agriculture as the main risk, and reversal events are reported, so permanence is only moderate. Leakage is not quantified and is marked as not addressed, which further weakens the integrity score.
Transparency
Transparency is mixed because the project has a named VVB, a stated monitoring period, and a Gold Standard registry record. However, the extracted record does not provide total claimed or verified ER figures, usage monitoring details, or a clear leakage treatment. The low extraction confidence also reduces confidence in the completeness of the public documentation picture.
Claim Safety
Claim safety is constrained by the project-specific baseline and the absence of a clear leakage deduction or justification. The project is marked CORSIA-eligible, but CCP status is not stated, so dual-market claim risk cannot be ruled out from the extracted record. The buffer pool helps, but the crediting-period inconsistency adds uncertainty around the reliability of the claim basis.
Documentation
Documentation is only moderate because 17 documents were used and the record includes safeguards, FPIC, and a grievance mechanism. Still, the extraction confidence is low, several key quantitative fields are missing, and the verification report required nine corrective actions. The contradiction on crediting period between the monitoring report and the PDD further reduces documentation quality.
Overall
I privileged the monitoring report’s later crediting-period statement over the older PDD because it is more recent, but the contradiction itself still lowers reliability. The project has meaningful positives, especially VVB-confirmed additionality and a buffer pool, yet reversal risk, missing leakage treatment, and low extraction confidence keep the overall score in the mid range. Because integrity remains below strong levels and the record contains unresolved inconsistencies, the project should be treated cautiously.
Audit Analysis
This is a removal project with some positive integrity signals, including VVB-confirmed additionality, a 20% buffer pool, and documented safeguards such as FPIC and a grievance mechanism. However, reversal risk is explicitly noted, leakage treatment is not addressed, and the record contains a material crediting-period contradiction that weakens confidence in the documentation and claim safety.
Project Description
The WithOneSeed Programme in Baguia, Timor-Leste Simplicity WithOneSeed brings together nearly 1,000 smallholder subsistence farmers to grow a mosaic of community forests across deforested and degraded landscapes. On their own, smallholder farmers cannot access global carbon markets. The WithOneSeed model changes this by democratising participation. We support farmers to plant and care for trees on their own land, while combining these individual efforts into a single, community-based forest network. Each farmer owns the trees they plant and receives an annual incentive payment for every tree that survives. Collectively, these trees form new forests that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, creating verified carbon credits that return both economic and environmental benefits to local communities. WithOneSeed is built on one simple idea: when communities grow trees together, they grow opportunity. Transparency/Integrity Working with communities requires deep trust and high transparency, both of which are essential for building strong, inclusive local economies. The WithOneSeed model is not just about planting trees; it’s about nurturing a sustainable ecosystem that benefits the environment and communities. A cornerstone of this model's success is the TreeO2 d-MRV platform, an innovative digital system developed by xpand Foundation and the Baguia community to enhance transparency and accountability in community forestry. TreeO2 combines a smartphone app, web-based platform, and RFID tagging system to create a seamless digital chain of evidence. Each tree planted is tagged with a unique RFID chip, and each farmer is issued a TreeO2 membership card linking their personal ID to every tree they care for. This integrated system enables the secure collection and storage of data such as: GPS coordinates Tree growth and circumference measurements Carbon storage calculations Farmer incent
Red Flags
- Reversal risk is explicitly described in the verification report, and the project is not reversal-free.
- Leakage is not addressed, with no quantified deduction or clear justification in the extracted record.
- The crediting period differs between the monitoring report and the PDD, indicating a documentation inconsistency.
- Leakage not addressed in project documentation

Cosa migliorerebbe questo punteggio
- Publish a clear leakage assessment with either a quantified deduction or a documented justification for why leakage is negligible.
- Resolve the crediting-period discrepancy and provide a complete, readable monitoring package with verified and claimed ER totals.
Questi suggerimenti indicano quali prove pubbliche aggiuntive potrebbero migliorare il livello di confidenza di questa valutazione. Non garantiscono un punteggio futuro più alto.
